The free ration was announced by PM Narendra Modi in April 2020 when the pandemic reached its peak across the country. The official name of this scheme is “PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana”.
Under this scheme, 5kg of rice and wheat and 1kg of pulses were given. This project is one of the largest food security programs in the world.
1 lakh 70 thousand crore rupees have been spent on this scheme in the first phase. Union Food Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has announced his decision that this ” PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana” will continue in 2023.
According to him, the central government has decided to continue this project keeping in mind the 80crore poor citizens in India.
Now, if you want to buy rice-wheat through “PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana”, you are given Rs.3 per kilo of rice and Rs.2 per kilo of wheat. But after this announcement, customers will not have to pay any kind of money.
All these expenses will be borne by the central government. This project has been running for 2 years since its launch in 2020. It has been decided to continue this project till the end of 2023.
